Hello! Once again an Octavia MkII owner

Featured Replies

Hello from the UK, I've recently bought my second Octavia and am loving having a Skoda again. This one's a bit of a high miler (116k) so I'm working my way round fixing all the little bits which need some attention, so thanks in advance for any help and pointers you guys are able to give me, and hopefully I can do the same in return :)

hello,

hope the link helped in some regard.

we have 2 octavia mk2's,  both tdi diesel estate (1.6 and 2.0 vrs) dog taxi's, so can only advise on issues with these.

cheers

Great, thanks for that link - looks really useful so I'll have a good read :)

Yep my old one was a 2011 Petrol hatchback 1.6 MPI but the new one is 2012 1.6 TDI Diesel estate. No major issues so far (replaced tailgate hatch and the gas struts already) so fingers crossed!

hello,

you've been busy!

my 2nd hand 1.6 tdi s is a 5 speed manual of similarish mileage 130k, do about 450-500 miles a week and in the main she has been pretty much sound.

here's my list of basil fawlty's

air con pump never worked -  expensive, but never used it and have since removed the air con completely

fuel injector failed -  but signed up for the ea189 engine fix (dieselgate) and was done free under warranty, now would be expensive. (yours could have had the ea189 fix done, might be in the log book?)

egr cooler failed - expensive, as outside of ea189 engine fix warranty period.

major gripes

the 1.6 tdi is not blessed with the best brakes being fs-III's not the fn3 type, so any upgrades are expensive requiring a complete new front hub carrier and strut.

my local skoda approved garage (service center (my ar5e!)) is effing useless (found a superb independent vag specialist), your experience however may differ.

honestly, serviced annually and not used exclusively for short journeys, she should be good for many years yet, and then you can convert her to run on vegetable oil when the black stuff runs out!

i don't plan on swapping mine anytime soon.

all the best :)

hello,

as an addendum to my gripes,

my octavia's headlights (our blackline vrs doesn't have xenon's either) leave alot to be desired, i've fitted aftermarket hid's, and they improve the dark weather driving experience immeasurably.

have a good evening
