I have done abit of searching but cant find an old post that i read before :(

Current steering rack has gone so needing to replace. brand new is pretty expensive so leading me to either go 2nd hand or attempt the TT rack change!

If I swap for standard, will any mk4 platform rack fit the 4x4? 

 

What was the list for converting to a TT rack? Someone will probably have the link to the post i cant find

I believe racks from cars on the same platform will fit.

 

If your car has ESP then fitting a TT rack will upset it (because of the steering angle sensor).

 

I fitted a refurbed rack from Western Power Steering towards the end of last year - car hasn't done many miles since but all is fine so far.

Thanks both. Managed to get a 57k miler Bora steering rack in top nick for £40 so issue resolved. Next on my list is the dreaded ABS sensor on the fritz
