Exhaust inspection warning / EGR Valve

Featured Replies

My Yeti (2013 Diesel) has the exhaust inspection warning light on. The local Skoda dealer says that to fix this it needs a new EGR Valve at a cost of £1500 (including fitting).

Is this a fair price?

Have they checked the car or just been told the ""exhaust inspection warning light on""?

They have inspected the car after I reported the "exhaust inspection warning light", and faulty  EGR Valve is their diagnosis.

Before we can tell you whether the price is fair we need to know what model and engine you have. Certainly for a 4x4 it is an expensive thing to change.

It's a 2L diesel. Since posting a local garage has quoted around £830 for the same work (all parts and labour VAT included).

And they came as 2 and 4 wheel drive, and changing the EGR is different on them.
The 4WD is MUCH more complicated, which is why we need to know.

It's 4WD.

Which means that to get to the EGR valve some of the transmission system has to be removed, which is why it is so expensive.

Has the car had the Emissions Fix.....?  That was recognised as being responsible for many EGR valve failures.  For a time VAG were replacing them as a good will measure.

Yes it had the EA189 emissions fix in November 2016. I phoned Skoda UK and they will only do the "good will measure" EGR valve replacement for 2 years after the emissions fix, so no luck there unfortunately.

Have you had the fix rolled back?  I'd be disinclined to fit a new EGR valve to the car if not.  I'd also be inclined to find a good, local, independent VAG specialist to do the work rather than a Škoda dealership.

I will second that having fitted one as a pre-emptive measure.

an excellent product & the guy deserves as much business as we can recommend to him.
