Disc

Featured Replies

My rear near side wheel bearing needs replacing although not to bad yet. I’ve had two attempts to remove the brake disc without destroying it. Any tips on this as it it is still servicable or commit to two new disc and pads ?

What's the issue with removing it? Carrier in the way, stuck to hub, or countersunk screw not coming out?

Disc rusted / stuck to hub. Not tried heat yet but did try forcing bolt through carrier bolt hole. Didn’t push it to much though

Loosen the retaining screw. Add wheel bolts back in. Wack from behind using a block of wood and hammer turning a little and repeat....

Missed hammer use

What I've done in the past is to use a penetrating oil spray can fitted with the straw and carefully spray a little oil in each of the disc stud holes at the split between the hub (threaded bit) and disc. Also the other alternate holes which have the hub blanking them. The oil gets drawn in by capillary action. A little oil around the hub centre/disc join too. Turning the disc at the same time. Allow the oil to penetrate, repeat squirting after a few minutes and wait for the oil to do its job for say 30 minutes. So far it worked for me as the disc usually then drops of with a light tap of the hammer at the edge of the disc face.

Okay cheers for that. I’ll save some work next time and leave the carrier ( knuckle ) part in place until sure disc loose. Not a lot of room to work in behind wheel etc
