HI All I hope you are all keeping well in these difficult times and all is good with you and your loved ones. 

 

I have a 1.4 Petrol 2007 Octavia mk2 and I'm having a problem with the odometer / trip counter.

 

When driving they keep switching from one to the other and the trip counter resets to zero. 

 

Any Idea what's going on here and is it a big / expensive fix ? Is it a main dealer job ? ( They're robbin B@$+@£&S here in ROI )

 

It's no big problem for me at the moment but I may need to get it sorted in a few months time as I may be doing some work where I have to keep track of my mileage.

The clue is the reset to zero. This happens too when you disconnect the battery so I suggest you have an intermittent 12V feed. I would check fuses for being loose or, more likely, corrosion on the blades and the part the push into.

do you have a reset on the stalk (rh) wondering if you have a dodgy button or a short causing odd behaviour

Give the trip button a good push/pull/wiggle to ensure free operation, I've seen one partly jammed with dried soft drink splash.
