EPC light on, slow revving and juddering engine?

Featured Replies

Hi

So recently my Fabia, a 2003 naturally aspirated 1.2 3 cylinder, started playing up. I was out driving through a town and my engine starting juddering. I thought maybe clutch slip but it still did it when gearbox was in neutral.

I got home, sat the car on the driveway and let it settle. I revved it, just a little tap and it revved again without me touching it. EPC light came on for about a second and went off again. It hasn't come back on since. I took it out for another short drive round my estate and the revving and acceleration was really slow in any gear and there was a lesser amount of juddering but still noticeable.

Don't quite know what could be wrong, my dad thinks it could be the coils. My dad got one of then changed recently when coil no2 stopped suddenly and it was only running on 2 cylinders.

If it is the coil that is playing up, it will be the last one to be replaced as we have already got the other 2 replaced.

Apart from that, I thought maybe a sensor?

Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks.

Well, given that it's thrown an EPC, maybe read the fault codes rather than playing a "throw money at it" lottery?

Sounds very much like another coil has gone. The OE ones are rubbish and fail.

I can recommend BBT ignition coils available from Eurocarparts which have been very reliable for me at a little over £23 each. Recommended to check or change spark plugs if its been longer than 30,000 miles since last change as worn spark plugs requires higher voltages to ignite that strain the coil packs.

I use basic Bosch plugs that are around £3.50 ea and are excellent, last well in the HTP engines.

Yeh, maybe seems like that's what I said but no... There is only one more coil that needs to be replaced, and we are going to give it to a garage to get it diagnosed in the week.

A year ago, the same garage changed one and said the other 2 would be likely going soon, and seeing that one failed a few weeks ago, I'm guessing it could well be the last coil/spark plug.

We were going to get it checked out anyway though.
