Superb Mk2 Dechrome and LED Bulb journey

Featured Replies

Hi Everybody! I’m new to Briskoda, however been an avid follower for years. Thank you to many who have provided advice where I needed it. This is my first post.

I was previously an owner of a Purple 2.0 TDI MK2 DSG which I sold last year - purchased a BMW 3 series and realised how much I needed the space having 2 very young kids. (And heavily missing the Superb)

I now have a White 61 plate Skoda Superb Estate 2.0 TSI DSG which I plan to keep for the foreseeable and soon to be undergo some aesthetic work to make it more unique to me.

I have provided a photo of my purple Superb Saloon I had sold last year, and of my current White Superb estate I have purchased last week.

My plans for the white Superb:

- Caliper painting

- Front end dechrome

- New LED bulbs on the front end for a clean fresh look

- Very light tint to the front headlights, fog lights & rear lights

- Led interior bulbs change

All of this for now. 🙂 - most of this work I will be getting small independent garages to do for me, however I will be happy to share before/after images for those who may be considering doing any of the same.

Why wrap/Tint? This will allow me to remove seamlessly if I do not like the look.

Have you done the LED bulbs on the new car yet? I was considering changing the DRL's for LED ones as I don't like the yellow hue of them compared to my HID's. Will they work ok though? Having tried LED sidelights on my B6 Passat I found VW's canbus doesn't like them and they will only work with standard bulbs.

Hi Andy,

I’ve attached the LED’s I’ve purchased from eBay. I bought these as they’re fairly inexpensive as a test.

I’ve only got around to fitting DRL, Fog lights, and side lights due to very rainy weather here in West Yorkshire.

Firstly - Canbus errors - only the front right Fog light display as an error, however the fog light does come on. (Picture attached) the error light does come and go.

DRL - Very easy to change, the LED I’ve used emits a lovely white light with no flickers (yet, however it’s early days)

Fogs - Again, easy to fit after following advice from others within Briskoda posts, however canbus error does show. Additionally, when reversing or turning corners, the halogens fade in and fade out, but the LED fogs appear suddenly and disappear suddenly - and give another little random very quick flash for good measure (no idea why)

Side lights - nearly ripped my hand to pieces trying to remove the old ones. It is such a small tight space to manoeuvre; getting the LED’s back in was no bother. All I can say with the side lights is patience and try and ask a slimmer handed individual 🙂

I will take some photographs today in the day and night and I will post these later this evening.

But I would say changing the DRL alone definitely makes a big difference, the car almost looks newer because of the simple change.

I hope this helps for now and I’ll add some pictures later today.

  • 4 weeks later...

Thanks for the reply, I wasn't ignoring it, just waiting for my bulbs to arrive from China. Finally received them last week and just got around to installing them. They do indeed make the car look more modern with the bright white LED DRL's and best of all no canbus error message. Thanks again for the heads up.
