New very happy owner of a MK3 2L DSG Estate...

Lights are a little boring, how easy is it to switch from Halogen to LED. Or, is it possible to swap out standard light cluster with those of the VRS? (Because damn I love the VRS lights).

While I'm here, I'm getting a Light Assist Fault, this is related to high beam assist right? Any idea on what could be causing it?

Also, the luggage cover doesn't want to retract anymore, anyone know how to get the thing apart to see if I can fix the issue?

Lots of threads discussing headlight upgrades if you perform a search.

In  summary the general recommendation is that it is too expensive to upgrade from halogen to legal LED.

Replacement with LED bulbs (available on the internet) usually have too  much scatter and will fail MOT or vehicle inspection if stopped.

Bi-Xenon upgrade is also not recommended as that requires a lot of additional legal installation of electronic and headlight washer controls.

Cheaper to buy a vehicle with it fitted at factory.

Usual recommendation is to fit Osram or Philips halogen bulb upgrades. Minimal cost, noticeable improvements but bulb life maybe short, especially on bad roads with lots of vibration.

How old is your car? The facelift with the split headlights was generally considered to have better optics on the halogen than the original mk3, which I have.

This is where it's a grey area in the UK - the MOT test only tests that headlight washers work IF FITTED but it doesn't require that if HID headlamps are fitted that headlight washers are fitted also despite the lighting regulations requiring both headlight washers and self levelling if HID headlamps are fitted.

So legality and MOT passing are not the same thing - which is pretty stupid IMHO.

As a result of this inconsistency my Octavia Elegance which has Halogen headlamps but also has factory fitted headlight washers will fail the MOT if the headlight washers don't work despite them not being a legal requirement - go figure?

Thank you for the replies, and yeah I did a search and you're right that there are many, but it became pretty monumental to sort through what I was looking for, sorry for the lazy behavior.

You've answered my main concerns though thank you, I'll look at the better halogen bulbs, I love the Phillips and Osram H7s so I'll go with those thanks.
