Gear Shift Indicator showing unreasonable suggestions

Featured Replies

Hi, I was wondering if anyone has came across anything similar. On my 70 reg Scala, the shift indicator on the virtual cockpit shows really illogical changes while sometimes the current gear will pulse.

So if I'm travelling in 6th, it will recommend changing to 1st. I've attached a video of it in action below.

I'm not doing anything out of the ordinary, my foot is well away from the clutch and it doesn't happen when my partner drives. I've also got a Karoq and don't have these issues. Any ideas of what it could be?

The best thing to do with the Gear Shift indicator is switch it off.

Its one of several modern devices that car makers have forced upon us, possibly with good intentions, that simply cause confusion and/or irritation and/or downright anger.

Once it’s been switched off, life can continue normally.

At least it stays OFF, unlike Stop/Start that has to be switched off every time you fire up the engine.

Active cruise / Lane assist provides a constant battle of wills.

Too right. The last time I had one (in a hire car) I would ease the throttle on a false flat, and it would tell me to change up a gear, although I was going to hit a steeper pitch in about 50 yards. Sorry, V@&xh@11, that's simply pointless.

Not a problem on a DSG but if I could permanently turn of lane control and stop start. Adaptive cruise control is great on long motorway journeys once you have the confidence to trust it.

Blower controls in the hot weather are absolute **** on my SEL you have to go into the infotainment system to adjust which is mad and dangerous.

I've got to agree that the infotainment system isn't great on the SEL. You seem to need to go around the houses to get to where you need. Not sure if there is a shortcut to access android auto or if you need to go through menus which I'm currently doing. The blower controls are terrible as well.

Tried the gear shift indicator again and it just does it for me and not my partner. The only difference is the seat position we drive in. It's not causing any change in drive quality but it's really irritating me not knowing what's wrong!!

The blower control on the 2021 model only has low Medium and High they have got rid of the slider control. If I have aircon on i leave it in auto.

Just use Auto setting for the Climate Control. It works very well. Keep windows open for a min or two before setting off to release warm air. Once moving, windows closed and temp set to 19 on Auto mode - nice chilled air comes streaming out of the vents within seconds. It's a better system than the all-touch screen affair in my Volvo V90.

Just leave the aircon on all year on auto.

It has an air dryer which helps with demisting

Our 10 year old Roomster still blows cold air, never turn a/c off, never had a/c service, never needed a top up.

What’s point in saving few pounds of fuel then paying out hundreds to repair because left it off for months and seals dried out.
