  1. I tried to change the front indicators on my Scala to LED versions from LEDPerf but they caused Canbus errors immediately. Not sure if you will have the same issue with the high beams though. When I reinserted the original halogen bulbs, the errors cleared.
  2. Probably best to just use a good quality screen cleaning cloth. A screen protector will probably make the screen less sensitive to touch.
  3. I have a 20-plate Scala SE-L 1.0 TSI DSG (115ps) so hopefully my experience of it will be useful to you. SE-L of this model year has a good amount of equipment including some things you may have anticipated on higher-end vehicles (e.g. digital dash, 9-inch central screen with nav and dual zone climate control). I went for the SE-L partly for these items but also because it included electric folding door mirrors and keyless entry and keyless start (features which the SE version does without as standard). However, this was personal preference. The only options I added were the tailgate design package (for aesthetics) and quartz grey paint. If I did not have a preference for the above features, I would probably gone for the SE which is itself very good spec wise. Other options I considered at the time of ordering were front parking sensors and the rear camera, but I felt the prices for these were high so I went without (although the car is relatively easy to park even with just the standard rear parking sensors). Re inbuilt nav on the SE-L, it is good but I still tend to use Android Auto more regularly as the mapping / live traffic data is better. The 9 inch screen on the SE-L is impressive but I have had an SE as a loan car before and the slightly smaller screen it features is still very useable (plus it also features Android Auto + Apple CarPlay and has physical volume control - which is better than the touch one on the SE-L). Software-wise, I have had bugs with the e-call. I used to regularly get an error on the dash that the system was making an emergency call (although nothing would happen). It caused other glitches with the media screen / infotainment. However, since I had a software update performed around October last year by my local dealer, it has worked flawlessly and all the issues seem to be resolved. Engine-wise, the 1.0 TSI is a peach. Typically thrummy (given it is a 3 cylinder) but there is good power across the rev range for everyday driving, even if the vehicle is fully-loaded up. The DSG suits the engine well but I am sure the manual would be fine also. Hope this helps in your decision making.
  4. I've got multiple issue with the Amundsen system on my 2020 SE-L. Functions drop off randomly, phone mic stops working intermittently, sat nav doesn't load sometimes, car intermet connection drops out regularly and GPS nav signal dropped out when was on rural roads in Kent the other week leaving me stranded (with no phone signal). Android auto now disappeared from the menus as well. Also get the 'Initiaing SOS Call' message every few mins in the virtual cockpit display even though it apparently has had the software fix already. Nightmare. Very frustrating as everything else about the car is good, but this dud system renders the vehicle almost useless at times. Booked into the dealer next week.
  5. I don't have it on my Scala but we do have it on our A3. Definitely a useful bit of kit.
  6. Overall it's a good car for the price point. I have a 2020 1.0 TSI 115ps DSG SE-L. Engine punches above it's weight (was originally looking at the 1.5 but didn't need to look past the 1.0 after a test drive). My gripes are limited, but would say some plastics on the dash are a bit basic and I have had some issues with the Amundsen system losing a data connection.
  7. Glad you like your Scala and that the dealer has confirmed there is no issue with your suspension. My Scala seems quite similar to yours and agree that the gap in the arches does seem a bit more than you might expect. However, it does make for quite a nice comfy ride and means it's highly unlikely you will ever bottom it out on any speed bumps! Given the car is based on the same chassis as the current Polo, the 17' wheels still fill the arches better than the typical 15' wheels you get on most Polo's.
  8. I read somewhere that Skoda are introducing a new maintenance package for vehicles 3-6 years old in the UK where you can get a 2 years servicing, 2 years MOT, 2 years Roadside Assistance and 2 Years Warranty for about £32 per month. Doesn't seem like such bad value all things considered. Think this is a new scheme across the mainstream VAG brands.
  9. Nice spec! The ambient lighting is a nice feature to have - shines a subtle light along the dash and door handle recesses etc. Personally, I'm not a fan of heated windscreens only because you can always see the tiny elements in the screen all the time which I find distracting. Not doubting the functionality, just personal preference. I have all-round sensor and a rear camera on my other car but my Scala just has the standard rear sensors. To be honest, you don't really need front sensor as forward vsibility is very good. However, I would prefer to spend the cash on the rear camera (which I have seen has very good definition). Full LED Headlights - I have the standard 'basic' LED headlights which are surprising good, but the full LED is a big improvement, particularly if you drive on a lot of unlit country roads. I seem to recall there is a package which includes the full LED headlights and the glass roof (which also includes the glass tailgate). Might be worth considering. The glass tailgate is a must from a visual perspective as the Scala looks a bit incomplete without. (Not sure why it is not standard)
  10. Just use Auto setting for the Climate Control. It works very well. Keep windows open for a min or two before setting off to release warm air. Once moving, windows closed and temp set to 19 on Auto mode - nice chilled air comes streaming out of the vents within seconds. It's a better system than the all-touch screen affair in my Volvo V90.
  11. The Amundsen navigation in my SE-L is probably slightly better than average, in my experience of in-car systems. I certainly don't find it crashing or losing signal. I suspect you may have a faulty unit or might need a full software reinstall by the dealer. Maybe the GPS antenna could also be faulty perhaps. As you say, you do still have Android Auto / Apple Car play connectivity. Google Maps is about as good a navigation system as you would ever need, in all fairness.
  12. I get 27mpg on a 2.5 mile school run through heavy traffic from a cold start. On a decent motorway run, 52mpg plus is easily achievable. That is with climate control on and a not particularly light right foot, for what it's worth. Mine is a 1.0 115ps DSG SE-L on the stock 17 wheels. Skoda servicing costs are very reasonable - certainly the cheapest of the VW Group, unsurprisingly. Hills? Don't worry. The car has more than enough torque to manage. Easy to gear-brake on the way down with the DSG in manual mode as well.
  13. I have a 2020 Scala 1.0 115ps DSG. It is a solid all-round car and definitely punches above its weight in terms of size and performance. The 115ps is perky and gives good acceleration all the way to motorway speeds. Like all DSG gearboxes, you have to learn the way it operates as can be tricky to get a smooth start off the line, but otherwise it is good. Mechanically, things to look out for are quite limited as it still quite a new model, but check the DSG box changing smoothly and that there is no excessive noise from it. I would alsp check to see if it has had all software updates done as there was a recall a few months back for the e-call SOS system. Otherwise, if it's an ex-loan car, just check for the usual bodywork and wheel damage etc as they aren't always treated that well. Good luck with the viewing
  14. The standard Scala seats are very comfy with good lateral support. The range of adjustment to find your ideal driving position is enormous. Lots of adjustment for the steering column too. I believe sports seats are an option for the Scala, but I'm not sure they are needed given we're not talking about a hot hatch here!
  15. Knocking the gear selector mode into 'S' will help hugely with the initial lack of urgency off the mark. That aside, I have always found you need to adapt your driving style slightly when using DSG gearboxes to 'squeeze' the accelerator to get more responsive throttle response than just flooring it, (as you can with a normal torque converter auto box). Our 2014 Audi A3 TFSI Quattro S-Tronic (DSG) has almost exactly the same issue and have also experienced the same on Golfs.
