Clearing airbag code

Featured Replies

I bought a kkl 409.1 cable. I tried to clear airbag code with vcds lite but getting a does not respond or something error?

Has anybody successfully cleared the code without paying for full version of vcds and using cloned cable?

VCDS lite doesn't support CAN based cars like your 2007 MK2 Octavia. You'll need a newer VCDS interface for your car I'm afraid...

If it's just an airbag light, check the VCDS owners section as someone local will probably do it for free or beer tokens.

Otherwise, consider buying a genuine VCDS cable. If it's too expensive, OBDeleven is a popular alternative and I believe Carista is also an option :)

Your saying the 409 cable won't work or the vcds won't work or both?

Neither 409 cables or VCDS lite will support you car.

You need 'normal' VCDS along with a hex-net or hex-v2. The older discontinued hex-can and micro-can should be fine too.

Just make sure you're buying from somewhere reputable as a cloned device may cause issues.

So normal vcds cable is the only thing that will work, I have one of those cheap elm327 Bluetooth scanners and it does work to a degree, reads some codes but it won't turn the airbag light off.

There's no cheap cable and software option to turn off airbag light?

No idea about the cheap elm327 things, I've never used one.

Carista, OBDeleven, VCDS, VCP, ODIS or anything VAG specific should be fine to clear an airbag code :)

Check the compatibly list before you buy obviously...

It's just not my thing to go to a garage and ask for a 'favour' like that. I would have to put it in for a full diagnostic which can cost up to £150 or more etc.

Yup, I believe Carista should be fine for resetting an airbag code. You could always contact their support first to make sure.

I've never used it so I can't add any detail I'm afraid :)

@Aj77

It's not a favour, it's a 2 minute job... £free ninety nine-tenner the apprentice can do for beer money.
