Let the modding commence

Featured Replies

After making do with a standard VRS for the first 6 months (apart from dash) I decided to make a few alterations this last month :D

Started off with the Green Cotton Filter & Cupra 160 Air Intake  then changing over to Eibach Springs.... so pleased I opted for this before a remap, the handling is far better than before and prepares it nicely for additional power.... still fancy the Jaba ARB though :D

Anyway, moved on to de-stripping it and adding some chrome handles, side repeaters and aerial  although I think it may look better if the base was chrome or if I added some black bandings to the based of the aerial to make a bit more of a gentle transition from alloy to black  Any ideas  Picked up a couple of nice VRS & Skoda Decals too.

Front Tyres were on the markers so I plumbed for a couple of Eagle F1 GSD's  Love the grip :D just need to save the pennies for the back ones now, although there is still 4mm left on them.

Still waiting for a Richmond Chrome gear stick surround from ebay and that will do ;) till the 14th June when I'll be taking a wee trip down Peterborough way to visit Jabba where I will be dabbling in a wee bit of custom remap magic :D:thumbup:

I would like as much power as possible without putting the clutch/fly wheel at risk. I have had a good look around here regarding the best approach but still no further forward as to how/what I should be asking for when I go down to Jabba. Any advice... would be appreciated ;) Oh, and do you think chrome mirrors would look good or, do you feel it would be to much  I like the idea of them but do not want to far with the chrome/red look :D

Hey Duncan

That is a really nice looking car.

I also quite like the interior of it too.

Not a big fan of the trim bits ( I had the wood one on my Felicia ) but that is quite nice.

The ARB is a cracking mod and well worth the money.

Be carefull with the remap I have heard some bad things about some of them clutch wise.

But just do plenty of research in to them.

Sometimes if you ask the question about remaps you will get "I have a and its better than b" so just be aware.

As for the mirrors.

Buy them loosely fit , if you dont like them sell them.

Possibly just about right with the mirrors. You can tell with the door handles (which look excellent) that the red goes well with silver trims.

Sarah

Looks great - can I ask where you got the side decals from?

If you've got air flowing at the front, let it out of the back - with a Milltek system. Diesels don't need CATs, so I went fot a turbo back. Sounds good too.

Remap is up to you......... you can go max power, or driveability. For the latter, I'm delighted with mine - pulls from 1,200 rpm in top - but still has the power. Not absolutely max that can be achieved, but up there.

The clutch can get better plares put in it when (not if) it starts slipping. Roger M:)

Have you thought about the brakes if getting a remap? I want one too but haven't got the money for brakes aswell, I know some people have gone without them but they all seem to think an upgrade would be necessary and worthwhile.

With the chrome mirrors I think that they look good with suitable wheels to carry them off. IMO of course

Now that's a hot hatch!

I got the VRS decals on the front doors from ebay,

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Skoda-Octavia-Fabia-VRS-new-shape-Decals-Stickers_W0QQitemZ8044945885QQcategoryZ72212QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

The Decals on the on the windows of the rear doors were from http://www.thevinylstore.com/store/home.php?cat=251

The door handle covers are from Milotech. They are more expesnive than the ones from ebay..... about £40 in total. From what I understand the ones from ebay are not stainless steel like the Milotech ones. Very easy to fit, just make sure you size them up first so they have the correct curve and heat the covers and the door handles with a hair dryer..... makes it bond better and gives the neighbours a smile :D

Got some paint but not sure whether I want to colour code the side strips I took off..... but it's there If I decide to do it :)

If I go for approx 175-180bhp with the remap and keep the torque a little higher up the revs, will this be better for the clutch  don't want to go for the uprated clutch quite yet :D and of course, after the remap I will be looking to change the brakes to....... http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/VW-Skoda-Audi-TT-312mm-Brakes-MK4-Golf-GTI-A3-Fabia-vRS_W0QQitemZ8065981968QQcategoryZ23013QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem  swmbo insisted on this mod although she does like the idea of the remap as well :D:thumbup:

For the mirrors, I don't know whether to opt for the milotech covers or the replacement top half of the mirrors that you can get from ebay! I would imagine the Milotech will be stainless steal/chrome and probably a better quality!

After all this, I think the full leather re-trim and new alloys will have to wait till next year..... unless I rob a bank  however, I do work for a bank  na, safer to wait till next year :D

Thanks for the comments though and thanks Sarah for the info on the remap  and comments good or bad from anyone else who has had a custom remap from Jabba would be good..... ta :D

 yeah ya right! What's the problem with it, is it slightly out or a country mile? Hadn't realised there was a difference between a standard fabia and vrs for the gear stick surround! bugga :(

To be honest, I'm not sure about the mirrors either! I think i will have to use photoshop to decide :D

toon:

on your dash, you got fitted the front dashboard cup holder. Curious the space between that and the radio, there appears to be a new frame fitted, was that supplied in the kit?

Just found the example of what I was saying about the mirrors

sex?! wow:D

The lupo cupholders replace the tray unit that is below the stereo originally. Directly above the cup holders is a small tray and this is part of the same unit..... iirc it was about

I've been trying to think of a way of keeping the rubbing strips on the doors. I think what I don't like about them is their position (too low) and their profile and finish (merely round lumps of dark gray or black plastic).

Easiest job is to remove them but replacing them with chromier ones that have a fatter and flatter profile might work.

I'll have to do some more digging.

Hi,

My thoughts about remaping/ modifying vag 1.9 pd ............

Allards are the only organisation that does not just remap or modify diesels they race them. That is, they put their money where their expertise is. From their experience of racing they know the limits of modifications and are able to guide customers helping them to avoid limitations of your car. For example, I would have not considered the benefits of a front mounted intercooler as I considered it did not add to the engine power. They pointed out that re-mapping modification would lead to a temperature increase and could put an extra strain on the engine. To decrease this using a front mounted intercooler made it possible to add more boost thus power.

They discussed the work been undertaken at their premises at every stage which helped them to modify my car considering my driving style. It is a testament to their work and expertise that my car has never missed a beat considering it now produces 181 bhp and 301 lb ft torque having started its life as Skoda Fabia TDI PD100.

I would estimate Allards work is as good as the manufacturer in terms of both the quality of the products and fitting.

Allards are a safe best

Thanks John...... I have booked the car into Jabba and paid a deposit  however I'm not worried about there ability as I have read many positive reports from people who have used them :D

Mind you, you comments on the front mounted intercooler were canny interesting and that tweak has been chalked up on the list.... after the brakes and possibly a set of alloys... well, mabye before the alloys

Duncan

I'm not a fan of the chrome handles, colour coded is the way forward.

  • 8 months later...

I like the splitter on the above pic - does anyone have the part no?
