Struggling to find the oil spec for a Superb iV

Featured Replies

I am picking my new (to me) Superb Combi iV up from the dealers on the 11th August.

As France is in the holiday season, there is limited staff at the dealership.

I know that the TSi engine can use a little oil between service intervals, so I am trying to find out what oil I need.

Am I correct in thinking that it should be 0W-20 to VW 0.508 and VW 0.509 spec?

I pick the car up, on my way to my holiday destination, swapping cars on the way, as I found an ex-dem model that ticks all of the boxes, at a significant discount. I just want to make sure I have a top up available should I need one. The plan was to take my spare Mobil 1 from my old car and swap it over, but as it is 5W-30 it will be ok for emergencies, but is probably not the grade that is already in it.

The manual is not particularly good when it comes to the oil spec.

VW 508 is 0W-20 for petrol engines

wont be VW 509 as that is for Diesel engines

I have checked the UK manual for Superb iV and under oil top ups it says VW 504 or VW 508 or ACEA C3 or ACEA C5

VW504 is a 5w-30 oil so fair bit of flexibility with top ups, and can find these as most bigger fuel stations

Thanks John.

Mobil one is usually suitable for both.

Having checked the specs of my car, it seems to be fixed servicing, due to the extended warranty, so no need for the Long Life oil.

@CageyH

See the 2nd post i made.   Your car is on Fixed Oil & Filter changes because the VW Group shows that for All Plug in Hybrids.

It appears that Variable / Flexible service intervals or just Oil Changes are not available regardless of Warranty because the engine might not be fired up that often or running that long to have oil up to an efficient temp.

@SurreyJohn the Spec is VW 508 00 / 509 00

 So 0w 20 FS IV

 As in the same oil used in the TSI and the TDI,    508 part TSI  & TDI's 509.

 Same as the Oil before VW changed when it was VW 504 00 / 507 00     so 5w 30 FS III

PS Warning,   check out.

Re Fixed Service.

VW are showing Hybrids as due OIl Changes at 8,000 miles and Skoda are at 9,000 miles for the 1.4 TSI engine.

You are not going to use VW 502 00 oil though are you?   5w 40 Full Synthetic.          (off topic but when TDI's it is the 507 00 or 509 00 regardless of fixed or variable.)

.........................................................................................................

These people are saying 10,000 miles on the Plug in Hybrids.

I have seen the 8,000 & 9,000 quoted in other VW Group sites, and these are linked in other threads in this forum, Superb & Octavia section.

Thanks, so ideally Castro’s Edge 0W-20 LL IV, although Mobil 1™ ESP X2 0W-20 meets the specifications of VW 508.00, although I am hoping I don’t need to top it up very often.

I will see if I can get the dealer to pop a 1 litre bottle of the Skoda oil in the boot when I pick the car up.
