Polystyrene spare wheel insert - worth it?

Featured Replies

Ordered a full size spare for the octavia estate. I like the look and neatness of the ŠKODA foam insert with tools and cost wise looks similar to buy a Jack, brace and tool bag. Just wondered what others thought of the insert and worth it over non OEM tools?

Thanks!

It does help with supporting the boot floor insert and keeping it flat :)

Thanks!

The OEM jack does the job, but I'd prefer a better option.

That said, I haven't found one that is handy to keep in the car.

Scrap yard…

Then add a 4 way wheel brace 👍

I'd just hold on till you get the wheel you ordered, then see what space you have when you've put it in.

I recently did this, had to cut some of the plastic, and chop the foam insert.

If you fit a space saver spare wheel and want to save the foam insert without cutting it up to fill in the space, do what I did. I took out the insert and stored it away. I do at times carry heavy gear in the boot, so the space between space saver wheel and removable floor creates a big weakness. So I bought a sheet of plywood, "5 ply" and cut it to the size of the boot floor. That now sits on the metal floor over the wheel cavity with the removable carpet flooring over the top.
