Factory alarm

Featured Replies

Is the VAG-COM software able to show up faults on the factory fitted alarm ?

Mine has gone off a couple of times over the last few weeks for no apparent reason. When it has happened it has always been a few minutes after I set it that it has gone off. When I turn it off then back on it's okay.

I have the car two years and its only started happening in the last few weeks.

Anyone have any ideas what could be causing the problem ?

Not sure on that one, mine is an OE accessory fit and dependant upon the number of flashes of the led after an alarm gives a pointer as to what caused the alarm.

I have found that on mine if I do not shut the hatch fully (i.e only latched on first catch but looks shut) it sets a false alarm not imediately after locking the car. Next time it goes off check that the hatch is fully shut - its worth a try.

Gaff, UK cars don't have standard alarms, it's immobiliser only over here, so I can't check it out for you. Sorry.

Damp, possibly?

Would echo John's comments.......alarm will go off if any of the interior lights are on.

Hi Gaff, hope all is well, could it be the alarms own backup battery needing replacing? just a guess it may be a fail safe to alert you especiallly if the alram sets perfectly after that? Also are the engines fans running on after shut down (spirited drive) may be the voltage drain is etting it off...

I will have a look for the above if it happens again. Anytime it has happened if I switch it off then back on again (without opening/closing anything) it works okay.

What kind of back up battery do they usually have and are they hard to replace ?

Hi Gaff, to be honest Im not too sure how difficult it may be, havent really had a good poke round the vRS yet, its too feckin cold!!! hehe even give TMC a buzz as its a factory alarm they may be able to diagnose it?!

Cheers
