Brake discs and pads

Featured Replies

Hi,

I need some advice on brakes please

I know the fronts are 312mm but what are the pads size, I'm getting 2 options on ecp and local motor factors, same with rears

The rear I think are 272mm, current pads are Bosch 1k0615415r, can someone confirm please

Also can anyone recommend me some front and rear brake disc and pads, budget is around 300 give or take,

Current brakes had excellent bite but faded after 2-3 minutes of fast road use, last few weeks slowly that bite started to disappeared and have to press harder to stop, I can see the pads have little meat left front and rear, I need something that don't fade aswel,

Thanks all

there's a sticker in the boot under the floor that gives you codes alternatively measure them.  there's an old post of mine with details on it, should be the same size as yours

i can highly recommend Vagbremtechnic Hooked discs  and the Ferodo Racing DS2500 pads are good too, make sure you change your brake fluid.

I've just been reading up on the yellow stuff and people have mixed views on them, for some they work well and others not so, have you had any experience with them?

Has anyone had experience with ATE discs and ATE ceramic pads, I can get these for 275 all round,

I've had the standard ate discs and pads on a Leon cupra years ago, however sold the car shortly after so never got to bed them in,

Usually I just get standard brembos or pagids, they've both been very good, brembos never had that initial cold bite but very long lasting and very little brake dust and pagids have been very good from cold but very dusty, but these have been on bog standard run arounds,

I thought I'd try something upgraded this time but confusing which ones to go for😕

How old is your brake fluid? Too high a water content in the fluid can cause brake fade …..

yes I'm currently running ebc yellow stuff on the front and they make a nice upgrade compared to stock pads,

I would ignore reviews from more than a couple of year old as the compound has changed over the years.

Yes the review are old,

would they work on any standard discs or would I need to upgrade discs?

Do they have decent bite from cold?

What they like after long m/way drive?

Can they cope on the back rds?

Any squealing?

Sorry for a million questions, I need to be sure, I've priced what you recommend and they coming in at 375ish is that about right

would they work on any standard discs or would I need to upgrade discs?  Yes will be fine with plain discs but get good quality discs (I rate EBC discs as they are made in the UK and better good quality,  I previously ran EBC reds with Pagid discs and the discs were heavily scored so I would only run performance pads with good quality plain discs)

Do they have decent bite from cold? Yes same as stock pads but the bite gets stronger as they warm up

What they like after long m/way drive? fine as they don't fade when braking from higher motorway speeds and inspire confidence as this was one of the reasons for the upgrade.

Can they cope on the back rds? yes the more you push them the better they get,  EBC use the same EBC yellow formula for EBC Emergency services vehicles brake pads so if they are good enough for police cars that do high speed pursuits they should be fine for the occasional spirited driving.

Any squealing?  No problems with noise from EBC yellows, I found EBC Reds noisy and long time to bed in

the front part numbers look fine, but can't help with the rears as there seem to be different variants so best to go by measurement and sight of the pads of the rears
