Dashcam Hardwire install

Featured Replies

Hi guys

I am trying to hardwire my dashcam but finding it hard to do. I have located a few fuses to plug into but for some reason power still gets through to to the cam. I item I am sharing the fuse connection with though doesn't have power once I turn of the ignition. I am trying to connect with electric windows, heater, washer jets. Any help will be appriciated as its a new car and really want to get the Nextbase 522 installed

Thanks

Does the dashcam have a built-in backup battery that keeps it alive for a while after external power is off (many/most do)?

Hi,

Yes it does, it's meant to go off about 2 mins after engine is all switched off and key pulled out. However the cam continues well past this and still shows to be charging.

I've purchased a voltage meter now to check fuses to see which ones have power and which don't. Will re-try and see what happens.

Just seems weired, the areas that I'm sharing with all seem to stop after accept the cam lol

Thanks

Many systems in modern cars have permanent power and only turn off (actually go into standby) after receiving a message on the CAN bus - so a system going off doesn't necessarily mean they have switched power.

Many thanks. I have managed to finally find a video on YouTube and also find a fuse that works. All fitted and all wires hidden lovely 😊
