Superb 2012 TDI Fual Guage not reading full

Featured Replies

Hi

New to me 12 plate 2 TDI , when I filled up at the garage themselves guage is only reading 3/4 ?

After a bit of googling I understand the guage can be recalibrated by software, although fuel tank would need to be at reserve level

Any other tips ? Someone suggested disconnecting battery ?

Could be a resistance fault with sender in tank ?

Any thoughts ? Thanks

How did you fill it up? To the pressure click from the pump? If so, then that leaves an expansion space of  5 to 9l in the tank, and the gauge itself is slow to react to the top part of the fill. If you leave the car until home time, or tomorrow, the gauge will probably rise to more like 7/8 full. This is all normal behaviour for a Skoda.

Hi , filled it up to the top slowly until evidence of brimming

Needle still shows just 3/4

Looks like either a resistance sender fault or pos needs recalibration on vagcom

I am going to monitor it on trip to see what dial reads as fuel gets low in tank

It's def faulty

Probably a faulty sender. I'm not aware of any calibration procedures for the instruments on this platform.

Seen a few YouTube videos on calibrating the correct reserve level

But as you say likely a wrong resistance figure either due to corrosive connectors or faulty sender

Your problem isn't with the reserve level though.

It will be the carbon tracks in the sender unit becoming oxidised or the wiper contact having lost its spring loading.

After repairing mine several times I would recommend replacement, my tweaks and repairs never seemed to last and a couple of times I ran out where it was still showing fuel and I had not been keeping an eye on the trip meter.

Thanks for comments

Are after market senders any good or is it an order from Skoda job ?

No idea I'm afraid, at that time breakers yards were my only source of supply.
