Good evening everyone. 

 

Went out tonight and noticed a faint "clicking" noise when I turned the steering wheel. There was no resistance and I sort of ignored it. Now the airbag light has come on and the horn and radio controls don't work.

 

Working on the assumption that something has come loose, where should I start looking, and will I need to remove the airbag unit?

Search clockspring in this forum and you will see other posts about this issue. They are not cheap if you get one fitted by Skoda. Pays to look around a bit. I believe whoever fits it needs to have a scan tool - I am sure others who know a lot more  will confirm or deny.

Clock spring for sure. And you'll need dealership grade diagnostics to reset the latching airbag warning light afterwards.

Any mid range scan tool that can access the airbag control module will be able to erase the fault code to put out the warning light, where VCDS or similar are required is for correctly coding the new clockspring module.

 

Dealership grade diagnostic equipment costs a four figure sum, VCDS £225, others cheaper.
