Air filter **** up

Featured Replies

I bought an air filter  last week of Ebay taking care with the code numbers and when i took it out the VW group box it is smaller in length and width and also thickness than the one it was going to replace, so my existing one is VW AG 5Q0.129.620.D.....and the one ive just bought is...VW AG 5Q0.129.620.E.....so one letter makes a big difference....anyone else come across this ?

They have different part numbers, why would you expect them to be the same...? 😕

I'd send the wrong one back and buy the correct part 👍

That makes sense 🤣

It should not make big difference, it is revision letter.

I did think that myself but i was obviously wrong, My old berlingo van could take  slightly different code numbers yet they all fitted, ahh well we live and learn.

Last letter is not always a revision letter...

it is model type (3V0)

Type of part (xxx)

location/side (xxx)

Variant (letter)

doesn’t always mean a newer revision, can be a completely different piece also.

In this case E, F, G are same parts different revision. Same for B, C, D.

Indeed, the last letter can be revision but it's used to denote different parts too. I certainly wouldn't rely on 'bigger letter means the same but newer' as some folk suggest :D

At least in this case, it's just an air filter so it's not a massively expensive mistake to make...

Sometime, the letter makes the difference between left and right! May be very different then... ;)
