Removal of estate interior panel (to fix screen washer) - best way to remove the panel plugs?

Featured Replies

Before I damage the fittings, I thought I'd ask about the best way of removing this side panel in my 2011 estate with the raised boot floor so I can fix the usual tailgate washer issue. There seems to be these large T shaped plugs holding the side panel in - they spin round but don't seem to be screwed in - any guidance on how best to get these out without wrecking them? The carpet runs up into the hard plastic panel with the curry hook, but there's no obvious fittings there to pull out.

TIA

David

With a thin blade screwdriver you pop out the rectangular screw cover that you can just make out in the enlarged photograph, then unscrew with a Torx 20 or 25 driver.

You are not alone, I could not initially see them either.

Wow, there's a screw in there? 🤣 I'm going to need to get my glasses and a magnifying glass too! Thank you for responding - hopefully taking them out will give me enough room - I did note there are two metal tabs just under the curry hook, I'll go easy trying to thread it out over them.

thank you!

No problems, I was severely sight impaired when I did the job, I was working by feel and instinct.

The difficulty with the hook is refitting it, the screw can easily get pushed out and fall behind the trim, hold the screw in place with a screwdriver while offering up the hook correctly aligned.
