94w versus 98y

Featured Replies

I'm looking to upgrade my tyres on a 2016 scout from pirelli cinturato p7  to crossclimate 2.

The cinturatos are 94w but i can only get the new tyres in 94v or 98y.

I'm more more less sold on the 98y as I don't want to drop the speed rating but will I notice much difference going from load rating of 94 to 98 ???

thanks in advance ☺️

If you mean size 225/50R17, then Michelin CrossClimate 2 tyres are available in 98V, 94W, and 98Y as shown on the Michelin website.

https://www.michelin.co.uk/auto/tyres/michelin-crossclimate-2?tyreSize=17

Blackcircles are listing all three versions.

The Michelin CrossClimate 2 is winter rated, ie. has the 3PMSF (Three Peak Mountain Snow Flake) symbol. That means that you are allowed to drop the speed rating if you want to. This is often shown in the owner's manual, but not always. You can also check with your insurance company whether they are happy for you to fit tyres that are limited to 150mph.

Increasing the load index and/or the speed index will slightly increase the weight of the tyre and it's stiffness. If you did a back to back comparison, you might notice a slightly harder ride although the difference might be very small.

Ive opted for 98y xl from kwik fit as they have 15% off if I get all 4 rather than full price for blackcircles.

Hopefully they won't be too much difference to the 94w that I have on at the moment 🤔 as I've always ft the current tyres we're a bit soft.
