DSG Thermostat location

Featured Replies

Hi Guys, my first post and I need a little help. I have a 2016 Superb 2.0 D with a 6 speed DSG auto gearbox and the temp is struggling to move the needle. I've read lots of posts that it's most likely the second thermostat or DSG cooling Thermostat and I can find reference for the MK2 but not the MK3, I am assuming mine is a MK3? My local garage did a pressure test as it's losing a little coolant and they say it's the pump which I will get them to do when I can afford it (cambelt required) but since then I've had this temp issue. Could anyone let em know where the second thermostat is located so I can get the part number and replace it myself. Im a good mechanic but this is the newest car I've owned so a little confusing. Any help would be appreciated. thanks, Andy

Just to clarify this is a Skoda Superb Elegance TDI CR S-A

Engine number CFFBH35993

Variant ACCFFBX01

This is from the V5 document

Thanks in advance

Chances are the water pump shroud is seized open causing the pump to always run on and lower the temperature. Also if your water pump is leaking its not a case of 'do it when i have the money' it needs doing right now, if that bearing fails or that pump seizes the timing belt will fail and ruin the engine completely.

Thanks for the reply ApertureS, The garage said it wasn't an issue as its only losing a very small bit of coolant.

I go back to them.

Thanks

Any coolant leaking from the water pump means 2 things, leaking past the housing and it may not be terrible yet but will only get worse.

or if it’s leaking through the shaft seal then the bearing is failing enough to cause movement.

personally if a garage has said a coolant loss and a water pump fault aren’t major issues at this time I’d be looking for a different garage... just my input

Ive spoken to a Skoda garage and they have said exactly as you did.
