Towing

Featured Replies

Hi there,

I have a 2019 Kodiaq 150 TSI, 7 seater.

I am looking to get a Towbar fitted to take max weight of approx 500/600kg. I see the manual and online it states that it can take an unbraked weight of 750kg.

Just wondering if anyone else has a Towbar for a trailer on the same model as me and if so, have you had any issues? do you have an my recommendations? Did the car have any per performance issues?
Thanks in advance,

Karl

No experience but looking at tow bars for a 2018 150TSi 5 seater, so if you find any info please post back here.

What does the plate on the car say you can tow weight wise?     That is what matters, not manuals or online sites.

I am unsure where this plate is located. The VIN is on the wind screen over the passengers side but unable to locate the actual plate on or around the door frame. I had previously checked the Towbar installers website and they referred to the plate which stated to take the kerbside weight away from the maximum weight and you will know what you can tow. I have just been unable to locate the plate. Any other ideas where it might be located? Thanks

The plate is on the lower drivers door b pillar .

Thanks Kenny, I located it there.
My Gross train weight is 4,060 and The Gross vehicle weight is 2,260 so I should be ok to tow up to 1,800. I won’t be near this as max I will have is 300kg boat and 150kg trailer. I will be within the 750kg unbraked limit too so won’t require a trailer with brakes. Just really looking to see if anyone has experience with a tow/trailer for 150TSI model and how the Kodiaq performed. Thanks

Our 1.4TSI 150PS manual tows like a dream...

Good to hear your car tows very well. Looks like a large enough camper trailer too. Hopefully the 1.5 TSI will be the same. Thanks

Our caravan weighs in at 1400kg and is easily pulled by our 1.5TSI though ours is a 5 seater with DSG gearbox.  I use the Speed Limiter a lot as the car does tend to get a bit carried away!  I don't think you will even notice a trailer weighing in at less than 750kg.

Hi Stratton, thanks for your comments and gives me some confidence hearing you are towing 1,400kg with no issues. Thanks again,

It is essential to ensure that your particular car has been type-approved to tow a trailer.  I ordered a new Kodiaq in August which arrive November.  I wanted a tow bar fitted.  If planning on fitting a tow bar after delivery, it is essential to ensure that the car has been ordered with Towbar prep otherwise it is NEVER legal to tow with it.

Thanks for your reply. To establish if my car has Towbar prep, is this something my car dealership (who I purchased the car from) can confirm or  best to ask the Towbar installer to check this? Thanks

As your Kodiaq has the rating plate on the drivers door pillar, and it has a towing weight on it, you do not need to have towbar prep done at the factory.

I believe Skoda are now saying, that if you order a new Kodiaq and do not order a factory fit tow bar, or at least have the tow bar prep from the factory then it MIGHT not have the rating plate filled in and therefore could be illegal to fit a towbar.

As of yet I haven’t seen or heard any reports of this actually happening.

Do you have an EU Certificate of Conformity with the car?  You are legally entitled to a free one, if Skoda haven't issued one before (e.g. to a previous owner).  It is the definitive legal document for that particular car (they are VIN-specific).  Field 18.4 will tell you the maximum unbraked trailer weight that it has been type approved to tow.
