Clunk from rear when taking up drive.

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I have a 2016 scout manual 150tdi (53kmiles)  and today at a junction I could hear a clunk from the rear as I balanced on the clutch and took up drive. It sounded a bit like an exhaust rattle but definitely only happened as i took up the bite point with the clutch.

The Haldex was last serviced a few months ago but I'm sure I can hear a slight whine when I'm not accelerating and the clunk does seem to be like free play in the driveshaft (like on my 1973 landrover when i take up the drive).

When testing things there was no clunk in reverse, only in first.

Any ideas .... wheel bearing ?? Haldex bearing ?? Exhaust rattle ???

Thanks

Needs to go on a lift and they check everything for play by twisting shafts.

CVs, Haldex diff (also check for side play and leaks), and the doughnut coupling in front on the propshaft to the Haldex.

Should be easy enough to track it down.

While you're at it check the suspension bushes.
