Engine light

Featured Replies

Hi my 2017 superb sportline has developed an engine management light on the dash however it drives and behaves normally.l am thinking it may be the MAF that needs a clean and want to buy a cheap OBD2 scanner for the codes.would any work also do they all clear the codes as well.any info on which to buy would be great.

What engine?

and out of the over 30/40 sensors and actuators on an engine an engine management light could literally be 100s of things. Chances of it being a maf sensor needing a clean is slim to none and to be honest they don’t really fail nowadays with hot film instead of hot wire sensors.

A cheap obd scanner is exactly that, cheap and will do very basic things and even then it won’t be 100% accurate all the time and won’t give any manufacturer fault details, just generic stuff.

Garages pay £1000s for the equipment to do everything but on the other hand a lot of people would recommend cheaper home alternatives like OBD11 or VCDS as long as you’re using it for specific cars and purposes.
