Had the 2016 VRS 1 year, time for Oil change: what else?

Featured Replies

It's been a year since i took delivery of the car that puts a smile on my face every day.

My 2016 VRS 230. She's now due an 'Oil Service and Inspection'. I'll be going to my Indy, so I understand that an Oil change and filters should be done.

Is there anything else i should request? Differential Oil change (Haldex)? Spark Plugs (it's almost hit 40k miles)?, water pump?

Thanks in advance.

For my 245 I was told Diff oil, brake fluid are supposedly supposed to be changed every 3 years.

Spark plugs every 2 years.

Then there is the usual pollen, air filter etc.

There is a service schedule that has been posted to many threads on here should be easy to find.

What has the 5 year old car had done already?

If a VAQ diff then that was a 3 year / 30,000 mile oil change item.

Brake Fluid @ 3 years and each 2 or at least have checked for H20.

Pollen filter could have been twice already or not.

Spark Plugs might as well be inspected so if doing that changed.

Air Filter could do with an inspection.

It is all about location, location, location and what has been done etc.

Here is some idea on stuff but the VAQ is not mentioned but there are threads in this section.

An Independent VW Specialist should know what needs doing and when and how to do them.

A Skoda / VW Group main dealership service desk employee might really not know that much and not bother to ask those in the workshop that do.

Thanks for the info.

Oil service was done a year ago at 34,000.

Spark plugs are the originals I think, so will get these changed.

Have requested the Front & Rear differential oil change too (I don't even know what this is, but heard that it should be done).

Oil change and filter will be done.

Haven't asked him to do brake fluid, will get that done too, although pads were changed 12 months ago.

I keep hearing horror stories about the water pump; when should that be replaced?

Thanks

@Noms is it a AWD vRS that you have?

With Haldex there is the Haldex at the rear and there is a diff, that is not the same thing and both have drain holes and fill holes.

I doubt you are needing the rear Diff oil changed'.

I don't think mine is a AWD

@Noms

So if it has a VAQ at the front that gets an oil change.

No rear Haldex to have an oil change and filter clean and no Rear Diff to have an oil change of.

Thanks.

Also, I've heard the timing belt & water pump should be replaced every 5 years. When I asked Skoda, they said mine had a chain, not a belt, so wouldn't need changing. Does that mean I still do the water pump though?

UPDATE: Took the car in on Friday; had the following done;

Oil service (change and filter)

Brake Fluid (as recommended every 2 years, and I don't know when it was done last)

Spark Plugs (Recommended at 40k) The plugs that were removed were 'Beru', replaced with 'Bosch' (of course)

Front Differential Oil

I will change the Cabin filter myself, although it's only a year old.

I'm not changing the air filter, as I'm hoping to get a Cold Air Intake fitted soon.

I asked him to take a look at the Timing belt and Water Pump too.

He advised that my car has a timing chain, and wouldn't need changing, but listen out just in case it starts making a noise.

For the Water Pump, he said mine has an electric water pump, not pulley driven, so shouldn't have to worry about that too, at least until 50k miles.
