Driver side knee airbag removal

Featured Replies

Hi. I started to check things that has to be done before I can take the heater core out. I noticed that there are knee airbag in front of the heater core. How can I move aside the airbag and/or what other things I have to be careful with?

Undo the bolts and swing it to one side, if you are concerned about clearance or strain on the cable disconnect the battery then remove the airbag, dont reconnect the battery until it is reconnected.

Others will tell you to wait up to 24 hours after disconnection before touching it and ground yourself from static, not me nor anyone else who works with the things day in day out. The only way to deploy one is the direct application of a 12V high current power source and respecting the correct polarity.

Most airbags that I've encountered have a little metal tab made of spring steel in the connector socket that shorts the igniter pins together when the plug is removed to protect against accidental discharge.

Smart!

Thanks for the info, next time I have one apart I will look for it.
