Tyre pressure warning in stop start traffic

Featured Replies

I just finished a pretty crappy drive (4 hours instead of usual 1 hr 15 mins.)

There was an hour long tailback on the motorway with lots of stop start, after about 20 minutes i got 2 tyre pressure warnings at once. This isn't the first time I've had rogue TP warnings so i left the motorway at the nearest junction; checked all tyres and the 2 that it identified were at the set tyre pressure.

Strangely the tyre that had low pressure wasn't flagged.

Anyone else had this? I had another set of TP warnings after getting wheelspin on a friends gravel drive.

Someone mentioned before that the octavia uses ABS to judge this so might a lot of stop start cause an error?

Were the two low tyres on the same side?

Thanks, AG Falco

Were they on the sunny side or the shady side of the car?

So..any ideas?!

& a binding brake or hot brakes and then hot hubs and wheels can have hot air in tyres.

I realise that this is an old thread, but I think the warning light is nothing to do with the wheel speed. It is a battery powered sensor built into the actual tyre valve and these batteries typically last around 5 years on average. The battery is not replaceable and if a car has a tire pressure warning light on the dash, when having an annual MOT test, then it is an automatic fail. The cure is go to a tyre shop and have them fit a new valve in the wheel(s), I have no idea of the cost, however.

It is to do with the wheel speed ,the octavia doesnt have the valve type pressure sensors 👍

Oh, OK, so does anyone know if that is true for the Superb?

Older ones have no valve sensors. Look at the type of valve you have.

It will be normal valves as get changed when tyres get changed.

I have not seen "Tyre Pressure Sensor" in the Skoda Superb parts catalog.

VW Passat the same year as yours, will have it as an option (I had a 12 plate with TPMS)
