What oil is recommended for my 2000, 1.9 Octavia 110 TDI....... Full or Semi synthetic. Don't know whats been used before, the engine does not use any oil.

A local engineer has informed me that he had to replace burnt exhaust valves on a modern diesel because the wrong grade of oil was used ......the oil was the wrong viscosity and the hydraulic tappets had held the valves off the seats!

If your on regular 10k servicing which i think you should be, a good quality semi synthetic oil of 10w40 grade will be just fine.

Pop along to your local VAG dealer (anyone of the four will do) and grab hold of some of the silver Quantum 'Synta' oil. Its really quite cheap and perfect, I allways use it on my own cars nowadays.
