Tapping into reverse light +ve wire

Featured Replies

I’ve recently received a rear camera kit that’ll plug into my cars head unit. It’s a 2011 MY (so post facelift), does anyone have any recommendations where I could tap into the reverse +12V? I had a look at swapping out the reverse bulb but it appears that there’s a connector that goes into the body, so I can tap in inside the car. Would this be a good location and which wire am I looking for?

Thanks!

you can locate it in the passenger foot well behind the kick / sill panel, this is where I spliced in for my self dipping mirror, offcourse you could also follow the loom further to the back along the and into the boot area if that suits better.

It is the black with blue trace wire which feeds the rear left reverse lamp.

do you know if it’s that colour at the rear light itself? I’m planning on splicing in, in the boot, behind the plastic panelling so that I can run the wiring through the headliner.

yes it is, diagram attached.............the REF T6I referes to the six pin connection which you will find inside the left hand boot trim panel.

Do you not need to tap in to a reverse switch actuated power source at the rear of the car if the camera is to be located there, or are the power wires terminated at the end of the camera loom near the head unit. When I installed my £15 aftermarket rear parking sensors I just tapped into the wires at the rear bulb holder wiring.
