Infotainment screen totally blank for one journey - Bizarre

Featured Replies

Yesterday, I set off for lunch with friends 20 kms away and noticed immediately that my infotainment screen was blank - totally black. Pressed the on/off button a couple of times - nothing. Turned the volume control and saw the green volume indicator at the top of screen, but tapping Nav, Radio, Phone, etc. produced nothing - I had a totally blank screen for the whole journey. Arrived at our friends and reversed into their driveway and the rear camera display came on. So, obviously it was not an issue with the screen itself. Late afternoon, I got in the car to come home, turned on the ignition, et voila! Everything was back to normal. Tried it on four separate occasions yesterday evening and this morning, and it's working as it should. So, bizarre behaviour and a little worrying.

A. Has anyone else seen this behaviour?
B Has anyone any idea what could have been the cause?

A.  Yes, I have had this. Or did have it a few years ago. From memory, a dealer installed software (or maybe firmware) update fixed the issue.

B. Other than saying a software/firmware issue, no idea. I didn’t much care either, just wanted it fixed 😂

Ah, OK, thanks for that. Good to know I'm not the only one. I will take it to my local Skoda dealer if it happens again.

My vRS did exactly the same, twice in my ownership.  No apparent rhyme nor reason, and no dealer updates.  Our Polo's done it a couple of times too.  Startup glitches possibly.

Thanks. So apparently a random, but not critical, issue

  • 2 weeks later...

mine has just done this, dont see how it is a firmware issue as no update that I know of in the 6 years I have had the car, hope it works next time

It happened to me on 12th June, just for one journey, and hasn't done it since, so I'm not too worried about it.

yep, 30 mins later when I next started up, all normal
