PLEASE HELP - RNS 510 ISSUES!

Featured Replies

Hi there,

I will try to keep this as succinct as possible. From the outset, please know that I am not a mechanic, nor do I have any autoelectrical knowledge. I am also disabled, so as much as I appreciate being told tips about how to do things, I'm not physically able to work on the car myself.

The issue I have is as follows:

I bought a 2011 Fabia VRS only a couple of months ago. It came with an android unit fitted, in place of the original swing radio. A week or two ago, I had the RNS 510 unit (without DAB) fitted to the car by an autoelectrician. I was told that I would need to purchase a GPS antenna for the sat nav to work (as there isn't one in the car currently), which I have done (but ofc, haven't been able to fit yet). The radio does not work on the car, nor do the rear parking sensors. I was told that the system would need to be coded in using Skoda's computers for these features to work. However, I have just got off the phone to my local Skoda dealership and they've told me they are unable to do it as it's too complex a job and they aren't able to get deep enough into the computer codes to change them. I live in North Essex, so if anyone knows of any services I can use to get this sorted, or is able to help in any other way, then please do let me know! It's greatly appreciated regardless of what insights you may have!

Kind Regards

You might want to try the VCDS owners list and map? If there is someone local they can probably recode the RNS-510 for you.

That being said, you might want to add mode detail to what you mean by not working:

- If there is no radio reception but you can choose frequencies that suggests the antenna hasn't been plugged in 😕

- If there is no sound from any input, then it might just need coding for your sound system or lack of.

- Parking sensors might be a DDP/BAP issue which can also be changed via coding.

A dealer with ODIS can certainly recode a headunit although they not have the knowledge to do so.

@langers2kThank you very much for your help. I was not aware of any of this 😅🤦‍♂️ It does not even give the option to plug in a phone or connect via bluetooth. It doesn't recognise that anything is happening, other than being able to change the radio frequency (but nothing happens) and the maps says the car is in Cambridge even though it certainly is not. I'll get in touch with someone nearby using that map and see if we can remedy it. Again, much obliged, thank you.

The RNS-510 doesn't have bluetooth built in I'm afraid.

If there isn't a separate module fitted to your car, you won't have BT support. They are normally installed under the passenger seat I think?
