Screen washer prob3m

Featured Replies

Hi, after hitting a deer i needed to replace bumper, wheel arch arch splash guards and washer bottle. The washer motor appeared OK so i reinstalled on the new bottle but  have found that the  washer motor comes on for rear washer but not the front. I am assuming there is only one fuse for washer so am not sure what the problem is. An after market new motor is not expensive and i could try that but if anybody has had the same problem i would be pleased to hear from you  .. my frustration is that i do not want to replace wheel arch until sorted.

The pump is accessible via the front lower grille, pull the smaller side part straight out.

Probably a dodgy electrical connection at the pump.

But seems odd that the single pump works for rear window and not front.  Having looked on internet on other forums people some suggest that  a similar problme is  due to fault in steering wheel stork i.e need to get a replacement. Not sure i want to try to fix this as need to remove air bag etc

I doubt the stalk is broken, unless Bambi entered the car.

Otherwise I have no eye deer what's going on.

Did your washer bottle have 2 pump motors on?

Only one pump which works for rear window connector but not front

Since it only has two wires with switched polarity to determine which screen gets washed it could be a dodgy wiper stalk switch or perhaps a freak blockage caused by debris dislodged by the impact.

Check for voltage at the pump connector/remove the pump and check to see if it runs in both directions.

If the battery was disconnected during repairs, disconnect and reconnect as described elsewhere to reset the system electronics, they get corrupted by low voltage/poor (dis)connects.

Thanks, I did eventually find this is the way.

Thanks, this looks like good advice. There is no blockage as i ran with hoses off - motor will only run in one direction i.e rear. I will disconnect battery (negative termial) and and also squirt some electrical contact cleaner down stalk and leave for a few hours as this was suggested on Youtube.

Today is another day and the problem somehow seems to have resolved itself - I think the stalk is a bit dodgy and just needed a good wiggle.
