Skoda Superb elegance 4x4 No cooling fan or aircon

Featured Replies

Hi all, i have jusr bought this car and love it . went to have the aircon regassed as it wasnt working . The garage then told me that it wasnt working , nor were either of the radiatotr fans , checked fuses but still not joy .

Any ideas please as i cant find anything at all on the internet .

Many thanks

sorry its a 2014

Did they regas it or simply tell you what you already knew?

The problem may be the pressure sensor, an easy replacement not requiring regassing.

The modulating valve, only available as an aftermarket part and requires the refrigerant vaccuming down to replace and subsequent regassing.

The pulley drive shear plate broken or the alloy hub stripped.

VCDS will diagnose the first one, if there is not a compressor shut down code then it will be one of the others.

Hi and thank you for your reply , they regassed it and then told me that the clutch for the air on wasn’t even cutting in , but also neither radiator fans work at all .

As @J.R. mentioned, you may wish to find VCDS member for a scan and report back.

I doubt your car actually has a clutched system, so this observation may suggest that the correct diagnosis will be one of these failures:

Radiator fans will not be triggered into action if the compressor is not compressing the refrigerant due to a mechanical failure.

Ah thankyou breezy , so the rad fans won’t run anyway . I will let you know the outcome on Friday . Quite annoying as I have just got it .

When my old school pal, a mechanic all his life (he would have been 60 then) said the same I knew then that my scant knowledge of the subject far exceeded his and I made the decision to equip myself and learn more.

The fans wont cut in unless the aircon is commanded and working, they cut in when the high side pressure reaches 12 bar IIRC, either they are idiots and the clutch comment leans towards that or they have done a proper diagnosis and the fans are indeed not working (fan controller likely) which in turn will prevent the aircon from working but the compressor shut down code would say exactly that.

These days an aircon expert is someone that connects the machine and leaves it to do it's stuff while he stares at his smartphone or whatever, they dont need to have any knowledge and hence cannot diagnose, VAG have not used clutched compressors for 15+ years.

Thank you so much , in all fairness to the air on guy , he was only the boy , he said he was no expert and until it was hooked up to the diagnostic machine there was no way of telling. I was just so concerned about overheating the engine in all this hot weather if the rad fan isn’t cutting in . We shall fine out the outcome Friday .

mines gone the same way. If i remember rightly think the pump is nackered!
