Rear bearing/ABS pickup dust cover - where to buy?

Featured Replies

Hi, I noticed last year in tracing a wheel speed sensor issue that the dust cover that sits on the stub axle (NOT the big brake dust cover) had rusted enough to rub on the ABS pick-up ring on the bearing to the point it had worn off.

I bought a bearing kit, but unlike on older cars (mk2 golf) there was no replacement dust cover.  I did my best to scratch off the layers of rust without the cover disintegrating, but needed the car so put it back together.  All has been fine...

Think I have got same issue on other side now, and would like to source cover before I start the job.  Can anyone help me source it?

Cheers

Andrew

If I’ve read this properly if it’s the part on the hub you are on about I don’t think you can get it separately.

It’s a hub replacement, I looked because it was the fault on my car

Thanks @Snapper.

It figures, it's not on parts catalogues or drawings.  it's mad something so flimsy is a part of the hub.

I'll take a photo when I get around to it to make sure we're on same page....

Cheers

Changed the wheel bearing today and fixed the issue. No ABS sensors change.

Won't last for ever, so would love to hear how others deal with it?

Where the cover sits:

How it looks on stub axle.  See the shiney bits that have been rubbing:

ABS pick up ring:

Cleaned up and coated.  Used coating to check for clearance on new bearing.

I’am sure mine hasn’t got them dust covers on.

When I broke the sensor trying to get it out I didn’t have to remove the hub to knock it out ( but would have to if it had that cover fitted) and that’s how I seen the abs ring was knackered.

For anyone else with the same problem,  part number seems to be 1K0 505 491 - currently £17.61
