Are H8 fog light bulbs the same as the ones used on headlights?

Featured Replies

So one of my fog light bulbs have gone, and apparently it uses a H8 connection, the stock is H8 Phillips halogen I believe.

I want to replace it myself, as I want to do more little jobs like this myself as opposed to taking it to the garage every single time.

But I am confused that a lot of the H8 halogen bulbs I see have the word "head light" in the listing titles. So are the same type of bulbs used both as a fog light and the main headlights in cars (that don't have bi xenon)? What is the correct colour temperature of fog light? Is it 4300k for greater visibility in fog as opposed to 6500k?

On my Facelift with halogen headlights:-

    Dipped beam - H7 (55w)

    Daytime running/Main Beam  - H15 (15/55w)

    Fog lights - H8 (35w)

Halogen headlights usually 55w

A H8 is a H8 regardless of which function it's used for :)

If you look at the high k rated halogen bulbs, they tend to have a blue filter on the lens which reduces light output. Even with the filter, a 'blue' halogen doesn't come close to a xenon or LED in colour temperature.

Instead, I would suggest grabbing a quality osram/philips bulb with a minimum of blue tinting and ignore all the 'brighter' 'whiter' 'X% further' claims...
