No idea if first 15 minutes on the 7kW is to stay free but I am plugged in and it is charging and I have not claimed on the PodPoint App.

Strolled over to my nearby Tesco store this morning and noted that there were zero cars on the 4 bay charging pad.

That's a first.

What a surprise!

Nothing's for free.

15 minutes is and if you are there you just plug in again for the next 15 minutes.

So i did that this morning, and then 2 of us were charging and talking tonight and has 3 x 15 minutes.

Charged up free and a almost full battery for an early start tomorrow.

Not seen the usual suspects though that leave their cars charging all day, they will be charging at the council public chargers or maybe just at home.

Everyone will be charging wherever is cheapest. Free is obviously cheapest hence why the Tesco chargers used to be busy. Now it will likely be home charging or maybe subsidised council chargers. I always looked for the cheapest place for my ICE cars and now do the same for my EV. Tesco were free and convenient, so got a fair few electrons there but now its more expensive than home, so almost all charging will be done at home.

PodPoint at Tesco are now just 10 minutes of free charging if you do not claim the charger and pay the 44 pence a kWh it is now on the 7 kW AC chargers.

The chargers are virtually never used at local Tesco now. It was a waste of time anyway at 7kW per hour and you are camera fined if you stay there more than 90 mins!!

Aldi over road are also virtually unused where there is also a 90 min camera enforced parking time, even though 50kW.

Chargers nearby in 3 he area also hardly ever used.

Only 7 kW chargers I have seen regularly used is at another shopping centre where you can stay all day, these still have 15 mins free.

I can’t see why people bother with them though, typically much cheaper and just as fast at home. If you need to charge to get home, better at a fast charger?

Only time I have used a 7kW charger away from home was at a National Trust. There  for about 6 hours and was free as they support green travel.

PS,

EDIT.

On the charger i used to get less than 7 kWh in 60 minutes i am getting 2 kWh in 10 minutes before it cuts out.

...

Location, location, location. & there are all sorts of EV drivers / passengers.

Lots of people do not have Home Charging, or are not at home when away working, or on holiday or visiting.

Even reps going to Tesco might charge on the 7 kW for a while, or a long while.

I do not see many locally use PodPoint @ Tesco at 44 pence a kWh.  Because the Public Chargers are 41 pence a kWh, up from 23 pence a kWh.

There are people using them elsewhere i go around Scotland and a few here that like me plugged in for 15 minutes at a time.

A lady that went shopping and parked regularly where i charged got accustomed to me restarting the charger for her on her car while i was sitting for 2 or 3 x 15 minutes.

I use Aldi or Tesco PodPoint 50 kWh Chargers.

Near Edinburgh Airport the Aldi Podpoint is cheaper than the CPS 50 kW chargers at the Park & Ride and more reliable,

then i drive to the park and ride and charge the last 10% on a 7 kW charger while waiting anyway for an arrival.

PS

Winter / Cold weather and you are doing some shopping before heading someplace,

plug in, heating on and car at 100% before you head off and have a reduced range.

Or 7 kW when you have no option and 1 x 50 kW near and someone decides to Block that for all night, or all day and night maybe.

Real world EV issues.
