What is the general opinion on Clarion stereos? I am considering getting a Clarion DXZ838MP as shown below and just wondering if anyone has any experience with them.

Personal opinion is better than the old Furby was when standard, but not a patch on my old Pioneer HU and Kenwood 7x10's!

The Clarion in my oldPug was pretty good for a base unit, which is why I thought about his one. Might have to uprate the rear speakers again too. Think i'll settle with 6x9 this time though!

The Clarion stuffs getting better, used to be good but went downhill a bit.

They seem to be getting better again though.

It's a nice powerful unit for running standard or basic upgraded speakers.

Personally I wouldn't touch anything unless it's a Pioneer or Alpine.

From personal experience of the two the Pioneer units seem to give a warmer more in your face sound.

All depends on your budget really...

My choice would be this one...although less powerful than the clarion it has more sound adjustment features.

I have a Clarion 738 model.

I am very happy with it, quality wise. I also liked the looks on it. You can change the display colour but it always stays monochromatic, as apposed to kenwood units for example that use multiple colours. I rather prefer clean simple looks which the clarion has and can match fairly accurately the car's interior.

Thanks for the replies. I had a DEH-P6400R in my old Furby, but want a stereo with a black facia to go with the vRS dash. My choice has come down to Clarion, Alpine or Kenwood really. Me-thinks I shall pop into a stereo shop and sample them all myself. Maybe a trip to Andy_ccr's new shop is in order!
