VAG DPF Ash

Featured Replies

Hi everyone,

Just looking for some advice really for my Octy VRD TDI 2015. Current readouts from the VAG DPF showing attached ash levels at 45.6g.  is this acceptable/normal? Would a DPF clean at this stage be good/do any harm? It's not flagged up an uh EML or cause issues so far.

They look fine to me, if the car is not drinking excess oil, then you should be ok.  It's reported as having used 58% of it's estimated lifespan.

Does that tool measure Soot mass measured?  Ideally you want both values.

Ah ok that's good to hear. Yea I think it's at the top left which usually clears after a regen.

Yea I figured it's done half it's lifespan for the mileage (112k). Was thinking of a DPF clean to start a fresh lol since it's a second hand car. Runs smooth

You could pay to do a clean, and reduce the soot to zero (well a few grams) and within a short distance the soot will be increasing again.

The DPF is just a soot trap, and if things are working as intended, the regens will take car of themselves.

You have the tools and own gut to know if something is 'off' with the car.

Drive and enjoy it I say.

Good point 👍.

think a remap would be a good investment 😁

Don't want to put you totally off a remap, just make sure that they will rollback or adjust if your car starts making more soot.

A good map, on a car where everything works perfectly shouldn't make too much soot, a poor map will have your DPF doing many more regens.

Playing devil's advocate.  I do love a good remap, but the car I have now won't be touched.

That's interesting. Since deleting them now is illegal I'll leave it as is and drive it 😁

Probably get some good tyres instead.
