Mk4 VRS Manual box - Clutch slipping at 18 months old with 19k miles. Skoda saying they won’t help

So! Title says it all really. Waiting on Skoda to get back to me with a price but they’re already saying it’s not covered under warranty and it’ll be up to me to pay.  No way a clutch should be going after 19k (mostly motorway) miles!  Anyone else had premature clutch failure?

Prove that. And indeed prove that you weren't doing mostly M8 miles from the South end of the Kamikaze through Charing Cross to Townhead Interchange at rush hour.

Well it’s the same commute I’ve been doing for years and my previous mk3 VRS which I had for 5 years didn’t need a new clutch!  Plus, my job means I’m lucky enough to commute outwith rush hour and all at the quieter west end of the M8 so rarely stuck in traffic ;)

I was really shocked to see how short the warranty for the clutch is for the mk4. My Warranty Certificate says "1 year, no more than 30.000 km" for the clutch - which I find ridiculous... Imagine someone has a clutch issue after more than 1 year, but after only 1.000 km (not too likely, but possible)
What's the clutch warranty for a TSI VRS?

So if I correctly understand those terms, the DSG clutch (pressure plate and center disks) is covered for the full warranty offered with the car, both years and mileage??? 😲 
As I mentioned, mine is covered for maximum 1 year or 30.000 km - whatever limit is first reached...

3rd world countries - always get less advantages compared to civilized ones...

Difference between DSG and manual is, that in case of DSG driver has little impact on the clutch. Electronics is managing it. However in manual driver can easily kill the clutch. My mother used to keep her left foot "just above the pedal". Well, that was what she thought, in reality she was slightly pressing the pedal all the time, cause excessive clutch wear. In her car clutch been replaced roughly every 30000km.

Agreed, so why do I have a limited warranty on my DSG? Oh, in case you missed the info, mine is a DGS also - it's mentioned in the signature.
Is Skoda assuming that UK DSG drivers are better skilled than Romanian ones?  (just kidding on a sad fact...)

UK Owners were screwed & still have been getting by Skoda / VW with DQ200's out of Manufacturers Warranty.

So 3 years or even the 4 or 5 year if you buy an extended warranty is just so so.  No big deal sadly when there are failures that are because of fundamental design, manufacturing, materials as there has been for over a decade now with DQ200's.

 

So the UK / EU / Europe was not part of the World Wide Recall in 2012/13 that was just a Service Campaign started in 2014.

 

In some Countries like the Far East the Warranty was extended to 10 years / 100,000 miles when the crap hit the fan.

In New Zealand the Recall Action had the DQ200's getting a New MCU fitted and not just the Synthetic Oil changed for Mineral oil on ones from 2009-2012.

Then those with late 2012 ones told to GTF, and then another Service Campaign in 2017 on 2013-2015 DQ200's.  Only some.

 

So the Warranty on the DSG's should be a good thing. 

But really no help with many that will have failures as some since 2018 are now failing prematurely.

That is Wet Clutch ones not only 7 Speed Twin Dry Clutch DSG's.

Yes and? The OP explicitly says that they have a manual.

TBH, I don't know how to answer to that...
I can only hope you didn't get the point I was making.

I've had two clutch replacements, all within the first 9 months of having the car, clutch was slipping, temp warnings and errors.  Initially Skoda wouldn't replace the first one under warranty, I was just over 6 months in and around the 6500 miles and I had to pay £1800, however that ended up being caused by a faulty ABS control unit!  I did get refunded for that.  The second clutch went a few months later, the clutch, flywheel etc replaced under warranty that time and has been fine since, currently on 17k.

How can an ABS control unit cause premature clutch failure?

 

Unless I am missing something there is no connection between the brake and clutch systems other than sharing the same bathwater, the clutch is one of the few systems that is still a simple mechanical device and has no electronics.

 

Is this yet more BS from a dealer being swallowed and regurgitated?
