Multifunction Display Replacement Question

Featured Replies

Hi,

I have a 2014 Octavia Mk3 and the multifunction touchscreen has developed a life of its own. The screen no longer responds to touch demands and instead selects functions at random - changing radio stations, selecting new / unwanted Nav destinations, phoning people, etc. It’s got to the point where it’s so distracting it’s unsafe to have it on. I have removed the unit, checked the connections and reinstalled and the fault is still present.

I have found a number of replacement screens online but don’t know if the part number has to be exact…  My unit’s part number is 5E0 919 605 D but I have found a number of other screens that look identical with part numbers ending with the letter M, J, etc. and wondered if they would work in my Octavia. I’d be very grateful if someone on here could offer some advice! The unit’s with identical part numbers all seem to have pretty significant cosmetic damage so I’m wondering whether a unit in better condition with a different letter at the end of the part number would be a better fix. Thanks!

IIRC that is a MIB1 gen screen, those other part numbers will probably be MIB2 newer gen, so odds are not compatible.

Does the screen respond at all, as the cold has affected some, and a firmware update for the brain part in glovebox, has cured the screen issue.

Here is a possible replacement, but not certain it will work.

5E0 919 605D Yours of course

5E0 919 605E <-- a maybe only!

Ok, thanks. Guess I need to find an exact match in good condition then!

I’m not sure if it is the cold as it’s been on the blink for a couple of months now. The only way to control functions is through the multifunction buttons on the steering wheel. The touchscreen just does its own thing!

Would a dealer be able to advise whether a firmware update would fix it?

I did just add additional image above, but best stick with what was fitted.

Firmware dealers will charge you the Earth for, and odds are in your case won't be a fix.

Try yourself to hold down your Menu/Setup button for about 10 seconds, and try to navigate around to find Software Train, and send image back (press update and see if that button reponds)

Thanks varooom! Don’t quite follow those instructions though. What do you mean by ‘send image back’?

Meaning to post image here, or write in value of your Software Train

Example picture above in forum post for MIB1

👍 will try that tomorrow. Thank you!

This is available if you need,

SW Train: MSTD_EU_SK_P6230

MU: 0490

So you know what is available when you look at yours

This is a shot of the SW download page. I couldn’t select the versions, update or back buttons at the top right of the screen - the touchscreen didn’t even register I was pressing it.

I’m out of my depth with this issue now! How might I go about updating to the latest version you posted? I assume there needs to be some functionality on the touchscreen to select options…?

I think this isn't going to be a software fix, but I did see 2nd hand screens on fleabay for about £70 give or take.

Yep. I’m certainly no expert but think the screen is the issue, not the software. Do you mind posting the link to the screen you’ve seen? I wonder if it was one of the ones I saw yesterday.
