1.4tsi CAXA engine does it have TURBO issues? Learned hard way via remaping

Featured Replies

Dear All
First of all Merry Xmas. i wish you all the best for you and your loved ones.
Is my first time writing so if i'am making any mistake sorry in advance.

I have a 1.4 tsi CAXA type engine 2010 year (116500 khms) and decide to do a remap as the car was to me little bit "heavy" and needed to have the extra HP and torgue that is be provided with the remap.
I decided to go with a well named brand especially on audi cars. Over telephone they advised me if the cars was before 2008 maybe a wastegate kit should needed also. Took the risk and proceed. At the shop it is also mantoned to me from the tech that sometimes after the remap there is problem and "sometimes" a complete turbo is needed. Immediatelly i didn't like the negative aproach to me as it was like they try to "sell" me extra things at huge prices.

New map is installed and tech leaving for test drive coming to me and saying that there is a big problem with turbo. The thing was that the wastegate made by maker is at correct angle to the lever that close the hot air to esape thus the air is leaing anf pressure is not properly built up to give boost. THE ONLY WAY TO CHANGE TURBO.
When i asked them to do the test drive with me the tech was spraying the wastegate with someting and proceed to test. During this test was like a NEW upgraded car. He warn me that the malfunction of the turbo will come up after the spray wil wear of. Even if i asked him to remove the program he told me that even wit stock one the turbo has still issues.
Is it possible the car to have a malfunctioned turbo to give power but not fully and me not to understand it ?????? I know my car upsiade down, i have made numerous mode projects and i was thinking tha the car was behaving like it was before the remap cause i have it for 10 years now. Neither my trusty mechanica has seen any issues with the turbo or general missbehavior of the car ( OK he is generic mechanic not vag specialist) but is the NOT knowledge of TSIs is a factor not to see a problem to the car. I Trust my mechanic as we are friends and the wastegate was working normally to the previous service checks.
The car same day and next day till noon time performed like race car guys the expirience i was like a small child with candies. I assume the effect of the spray wear of and the performance drop like it was before. This thing and the fact that the ECU is still programed with the tunned map acting like this it is trye that i need a new turbo .
Even when the tech spoke with my mechanic and suggest to change only the wastegate kit the REVO tech said ONLY NEW TURBO will save the situation.

DOES ANYBODY KNOWS or HAS SUCH EXPIRIENCE? WHAT DO YOU KNOW ABOUT THE CAXA TSI engine? I FEEL I AM DESTINE TO BUY THE NEW ONE . Suggested turbos MITSUBISHI or BORG WARNER. All the installation 1000 euro about . I NEED YOUR OPINION CAUSE I HAVE 2 OPTIONS 1) I LISTEN THE REVO TECH AND GO TO CHANGE IT (ASKING THEM THAT THIS WILL SOLVE EVERYTHING with GUARANTY) OR 2) I LISTEN MY TECH FRIEND AND TAKE THE CAR TO A 2ND TURBO SPECIALIST, PAY HIM AND AFTER PAY ALSO FOR THE TURBO ( REVO SUPPLIED OR NOT)

Sorry for the long story and thank you n advance.

In the begining i thought they are trying to do phising and charge extra with stupid excuses. They come up to the "complete turbo" after testing. I saw in one day what is the car to loose all its "upgraded" power and come as it was stock. I DONT KNOW WHAT KIND OF SPRAY IT WAS THAT THAY PUT ON THE WASTEGATE.

Hi

My 2012 car has the CAXA engine and has covered 107000 km. No problems, I find plenty of power when needed.

I think maybe the wastegate actuator is on your turbo is sticking.  Maybe the spray is a lubricant which prevents it sticking for a few days ?  I recommend you fit just a new actuator, no need for a complete new turbo.

I do not think the remap is connected to the wastegate problem.  Maybe you don't need a remap, just fix the original problem ?

Can you read error codes ?

I went to do the remap cause I wanted to have this extra thing.

I thought that my turbo was in nominal operation till the revo tech told me that this is manufacturer defect. VW fix this by thousand to make a maker's defect??????

Imagine how stupid I feel that I thought the behaves like this for how long 5 months , 2 years who knows, I haven't drove other 1.4tsi to have comparison measure.

No any error on vcds, no nothing only the wastegate not closing properly.

Even when the two mechanics spoke together and exactly as you said my guy suggested the actuator to be changed the revo dude said no, cause this will fix it temporary.  He was trying to sell me turbo out of nothing?  He knows more as a running expert? My tech advised me to take it to his turbo for double check. I think I'm going to pay double time.

I suspect the REVO dude is blowing smoke.  Is this an employee of REVO or of a company that is a Dealer for REVO products.  Is he a mechanic or motor engineer,?

So before the Remap was done and there was talk of needing any updates of Turbo or wastegate were the Spark Plugs checked or replaced?

The Air filter renewed, basically a minor servicing done?

?

What octane of petrol do you run. is it 98 ron or greater?

These are the people that know their stuff.

If it was losing boost via a faulty wastegate actuator I can see that needs repairing or perhaps replacing but the turbo?

The revo shop is one of the authorized revo dealers in Greece.

All the services are been done to their normal intervals from trusty friend mechanic. As you said all "consumable " components have been changed even in advance in order to avoid problems.  The car is burning high octane vpower or relevant at bp fuel all the time by my choice. My mechanic is not a specialist at vag cars as he is generic brands but to all of the life of the car he cares more than the skoda authorized service techs. Said that due to he isn't tsi special tech I blaim also my self 1st I didn't make my self any maintenance than the visual to the turbo side, I thought that the car is like this by maker not that I was driving with a substantial turbo.

I realized that  when I drove the car tunned and with the spray the revo put and the car was fantastic. After the spray back to MY old yeti.
