Front Air Distribution Flap Position Sensor - Replace & Part Number

Featured Replies

Hi All,

When I first bought my 2010 Octavia not too long ago, the motor for the climate control blower was intermittent. It began to only work after driving at speed (50+ mph) for a short while, until recently it eventually stopped completely. Across the time I've owned the car, I've sometimes heard brief 'electrical buzzing' from the glovebox. I got no Fault codes from my cheap OBD.

I should've done something about it, but I wasn't driving enough to really be bothered by the the lack of AC.

Recently, I took the car into my local garage to clear an unrelated dash light and they ran ESI Tronic diagnostics on it before clearing the code. He gave me a printout with a couple new fault codes I'd never seen before (Damn cheap OBDs!).

The big one... "b109911 - front air distribution flap position sensor" was shorting. So that explains the noise. I'm trying to buy a replacement sensor, however it doesn't appear to exist! The closest that comes up on the internet is the front air distribution flap position MOTOR.

Does anyone know the part number for the sensor? Is it built into the Motor, and I just need to replace the whole thing?!

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

To my knowledge there is no position sensor, the system is calibrated by measuring the ends of travel in the motor and the actual position is calculated from this.

Time to check the wiring connector and motor operation, ideally with a diagnostic tool but you can force a full system recalibration manually.

The flap motor has a position sensor built in.

The fault code does not say the sensor is faulty, only that it is open circuit or shorted to ground (usual crap descriptions as the control unit would know if it were one or the other) but I agree replacing the sensor and then running an adaptation is likely to resolve the issue, but first try some Flappaerobics which may fix it temporarily or for good.
