Dash dimmed, dials dropped to zero on motorway.

Featured Replies

Hi,

question regarding an L reg Skoda Octavia Laurin & Klement estate. Petrol 2L.

Driving down the motorway today doing 70mph & the dash dimmed & all the dials dropped to zero. for a minute or two.

flashed on the screen.

Airbag Faulty,

then esp fault. or something similar.

car hadn't stalled, just random glitch.

but was half expecting the airbag to inflate in my face down the motorway...

anyone know what happened?

or why all the dials cut out...

got a obd device in my boot somewhere so will plug it in, in a bit & see what other fault codes come up or stored code...

Do the basic checks of checking over Earth's on the car, there's lots of them.

Check each fuse (take image so you don't accidentally place in wrong slot afterwards)

Get a fault code scanner on the car like VCDS (forum has member list available) and see what is stored there.

A fair few potential issues, but try to clear out the basics first.

I had some similar weirdness once, after pressure washing the car.  It was fine the day after after drying but something was shorting.

Got a couple of codes from the OBD2 meter, but still not 100% sure what they are.. post here just for anyone else's info..

says voltage supply sporadic so probably is shorting out somewhere...

If that's the only codes stored, then points towards power to the dash I think, or lack there of.  And the other is dash of course J285, that could be a canbus comms fault.  Might be idea to have clocks out and check that over.  Plenty of threads on here/internet regards to both faults.
