Rev & Speedo LED replacements help for newbie

Featured Replies

Hi folks. I have a 2011 VRS and recently the LED's have stopped working for both my rev and speedo needles. I had a search on this forum and it appears to be a common issue, I found a very useful PDF file here from user TomB59: https://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/425611-instrument-cluster-led-replacment/

I have a few questions around this and if anyone could help I would appreciate it. I was thinking of trying to do this replacement myself, but I have absolutely no knowledge of soldering or taking out the dash etc. My main concern is soldering - I would be very weary of messing up the dash itself.

Has anyone done this before without having any prior experience? Is it very hard to do? Did it take long to do? In worst case scenario if I ****ed up the dash, would this be extremely expensive to replace?

I've been quoted nearly €300 to get this done by a garage which is really expensive, so looking to see if it's worth trying myself.

Thanks for any help,

Dave

If you don't have any knowledge of soldering at all please don't try to do it yourself removing surface mount components is very difficult, I was in the electronics trade for 30 years and still got it wrong occasionally.

It'll end in tears if you DIY without relevant experience.

I'm sure you could find a local TV/electronics repair shop to do it for less.
