Heres a bit of a challange for you guys. 
Im looking at replaceing the engine on my other halfs car. Shes got a vw polo 1 liter on a y reg. Car is bot 20 odd year old. 
Does any one know what engine is used in the skoda range at all that used the same engine in the polo? It also runs on petrol.

Probably better asked in the Fabia Mk1 section.

 

The issue is the 20 year is the 20 year old or so engine you finds condition.

What is wrong with the one away to be replaced?

It's not the 9N Polo so Fabia engines won't work, it's a generation older:
