Timing chain replacement

Featured Replies

I have a 2017 MKIII petrol Superb and have done 43 000 miles

When should i change the timing chain please ? Now or at 50 000 miles or some other point ?

Should I change the water pump at the same time ?

What is  it likely to cost in GBP ?

Many thanks

Never 🙂

The timing chains on these engines are 'lifetime' there is no need to touch the chain unless there are other issues relating to it.

The water pump is also not driven off the timing chain but instead, the balance shafts.

And please confirm what engine you have and are you sure its a chain driven engine.

Sorry guys for using a generic term....

The car is a Superb SE L Executive TSI, 1395cc petrol engine

So Skoda / VW group in the UK say the Timing BELT is due to be replaced at 5 years.

Ah okay, the 1.4 tsi EA211 is belt driven not chain driven :)

Does that change the response so far ?

You have a 1.4 TSI with a Cam (timing belt) and the Schedule / Recommendations / Guidelines from Skoda / VW UK is that replacement is at 5 years.

That will be their response, Main Dealers response.   You decide.
