Octavia MK2 Elegance 2007 - Wing mirror/indicator plug.

Another oddity with electrics: Last year I had to replace the complete NS wing mirror unit.  Recently, the indicator/flasher failed and so I decided  to replace it and the mirror glass too.   Fitted the replacement glass without a hitch, but then I noticed that there were 2 wires from the door feeding the plug/socket - yellow and blue, furthermore, the socket's inner profile differed slightly from the new  indicator/flasher's socket, thus the plug and socket would not mate = impasse!

Still having the old/original faulty unit from last year, and thinking what a clever chap I am, (ha ha) I decided to cut off both new and old plugs and attach, after trial-and-error, two of the 3 wires, red, white and black from the old/original plug, by crimping, to the yellow and blue wires from the presently fitted indicator/flasher.  To test the viability of this, I touched together combinations of the 5 wires, but was unable to cause the indicator to flash; this was attempted with the NS indicator switched to on and with 10 volts between the blue and yellow feed wires.

Anyone still with me?!  Perhaps I should just purchase yellow and blue 2 wire harness that feeds from the connector in the door panel.
