More handbrake issues

Featured Replies

So I have been through 4 calipers in 2 years and now my handbrake cable is binding,

no problem I thought, got a new cable from euros and had a mate get under there thanks to my bad back,

he struggled getting the sleeve out of the metal guide and ended up snapping 10mm off the end,

(I thought I could maybe compensate for this with a spacer or adjustment)

but then he got to caliper side and the cable is much too long, much longer than the length of the metal tube break before thinking it’s that.

was there different lengths for different sides or models? The guy at euro said they were listed as left or right,

and can the metal guide tubes be replaced as I imagine that does dictate the adjustment and length of the overall cable

There are three slightly different part numbers but they all appear to be the same length & are the same for both sides....

Cables for rear drums are shorter (1585 Vs 1645), so if they'd given you one of those by mistake it would be shorter rather than longer.

I believe you can buy the alloy guide tubes but can't see them on that catalogue. I wonder if the reason might be that they come complete with genuine Skoda cables, therefore are not listed separately?

Examples of the tubes on ebay.....

thank you,

it is a VRS on discs so I am confused as to what’s going on there unless of course he has give me the wrong item but that’s not likely,

it would make sense why the dealership price was £38 compared to the £14 I paid at euros

The aluminium tubes should be available separately, I've replaced ones on a Golf before that completely disintegrated in my hands as I removed them. Can't remember any part numbers or anything unfortunately.

I did give it a tug to see if it was easily removed, it didn’t look like it so I parked it in gear and walked away,

my biggest concern is why the cable is so much longer,

probably 2-3” longer

Unless that they're not following the routing they need to take correctly, I would think that they're not the right parts.

That may be a option,

we was rushing to beat the rain and probably missed a clip, will have to take a look
